Peach cobbler is the perfect summertime dessert whether it be a Fourth of July party, a summer barbeque, or any family gathering. It tastes even more amazing with a scoop of homemade vanilla ice cream.
To prepare this peach cobbler I use a large cast iron skillet. The skillet makes it super easy to melt the butter and bake all the ingredients in the oven. The fewer dishes I have to clean the better. If you don’t have a cast iron skillet on hand just pour the melted butter into a casserole dish, or use any oven safe skillet or pan, and add the remaining ingredients per the recipe instructions. This recipe also calls for canned peaches but you can substitute with fresh peaches as well.
Let’s get to bakin’! Here’s what you’ll need…
Ingredients:
- ½ cup butter
- 1 cup self-rising flour
- 1 cup sugar
- ¼ tsp. nutmeg
- ¼ tsp. cinnamon
- 1 cup milk
- 2 (16 oz.) cans sliced peaches in heavy syrup
Instructions:
1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
2. In a large cast iron skillet, melt the butter on the stove over low to medium heat.
3. Coat the sides of the skillet with the melted butter by using a basting brush to ensure the cobbler does not stick.
4. In a separate mixing bowl, mix together the flour, sugar, nutmeg, cinnamon, and milk.
5. Pour the mix over the melted butter and layer the peaches on top (do not mix).
6. Bake in preheated oven for 35 to 45 minutes, until the crust turns golden brown. Let cool for about 10 minutes before serving.
7. Serve with vanilla ice cream and enjoy!
