Are you tired of eating the same ole meat and cheese deli sandwiches every day for lunch? Then let’s make some Cuban pork sandwiches!
I am always trying to find new and inventive ways to jazz up our typical go-to sandwiches that usually consist of the classic meat and cheese, grilled cheese, and the good ole peanut butter and jelly. Then I thought about what type of sandwiches I would typically order at sandwich shop or diner, and that’s when I decided to attempt making a Cuban pork sandwich at home.
An authentic Cuban sandwich is made with Cuban bread, ham, cheese, pickles and roast pork. My recipe for Slow Cooker Cuban Mojo Pork is absolutely perfect for Cuban pork sandwiches, however any slow cooked or roasted pork will work perfectly.

Cuban sandwiches are typically made using a sandwich press, a tool which I don’t own. In place of a sandwich press, I used a George Foreman Grill but you could also use a griddle or a skillet. Just place a heavy weight on top of the sandwich, like a cast iron skillet, to press the sandwich.
Let’s get to cookin’! Here’s what you’ll need…
Ingredients:
- 1/4 loaf of Cuban bread or French country bread (any bread that is crispy on the outside and soft on the inside), about 6-inches long
- mayonnaise, optional
- yellow mustard
- chunks of Cuban Mojo Pork (any slow cooked or roasted pork), shredded
- 3 slices of sweet deli ham meat
- 1 slice of Swiss cheese
- dill pickles, sliced
Instructions:
1. Cut bread in half lengthwise.
2. Spread a thin layer of mayonnaise and yellow mustard on the inside of each half of the bread.
3. To assemble the sandwich, add chunks of shredded Cuban mojo pork, followed by a layer of ham and cheese, then add a layer of pickles, and finally top with the other piece of bread.
4. Spray a sandwich press, grill press, griddle, or skillet with cooking spray and warm over medium-high heat.
5. Place sandwich in press and carefully cover the sandwich with the top of the press. If using a griddle or skillet, place a heavy weight on top of the sandwich, like a cast iron skillet, and press the sandwich.
6. Cook the sandwich for about 4 minutes, until the cheese is melted and the bread is toasted. If using a griddle or skillet, use a spatula to flip over the sandwich and cook the other side for another 3 to 4 minutes.
7. Cut sandwich in half and enjoy!
